The Power Team:Muscular Christianity and the Spectacle of Conversion

So personally I think that the whole Evangelical Preaching thing is a little ridiculous. The Power Team came to my high school once, and it was cool I guess, but to be honest, the only thing I remember is this huge dude (who was probably on roids...its unnatural to get that big) ripping a phone book in half. Now please tell me, what the heck does that have to do with serving Jesus? I think that promoting healthy lives, and staying away from drugs and alcohol is great, but why are people so hung up on trying to convert the 'non-believers' to their religion? I am pretty sure we all understand most religions, whether we go to church or not, and if we want to try it out or join a church then we will. I feel like this Evangelical preaching is just a gimmic and a joke. The section 'Man on a Mission' talks about the manliness or not so manliness of Christianity. I don't think that whether or not you attend church or believe in God makes you any more or any less of a man. The fact that the Power Team is using masculinity and muscles to get that point across is kinda lame. Eh, I am just not very religious. I don't have a problem with anyone who is (in fact most of my closest friends are very religious), but to me, this whole Evangelic Preaching crap feels like just another strategy for shoving the bible own our throats. But hey, if you are into this kind of thing, then more power to you. Just don't expect to see me pop in on one of these events anytime soon!
